Binding length = 2 × (quilt width + quilt length) + extra joining length. Strip count = binding length ÷ WOF. Yardage = strip count × strip width ÷ 36.
A 60" × 72" quilt has a 264" perimeter. Add 12" for joining, then divide by 42" WOF to estimate the number of strips.
Results are planning estimates. Always round up when buying fabric, especially for directional prints, shrinkage, fussy cutting, or cutting mistakes.
